| Action Research Bursary |

Applications are invited from schools in any phase to investigate how an intervention raises standards. In 2007-08, the Local Authority’s support for schools will have a focus on leadership. We are therefore especially interested in those submissions that seek to understand the many aspects of leadership, including pupil leadership.
More details of what is on offer are outlined in circular letter G69-07 which is accessible from the 1 June edition of the Electronic Courier section of this website. Each bursary is worth £1000 and there are up to 50 available. Application forms are available on our website www.thinkingforlearning.com
The Local Authority sees action research as a vital tool to help raise standards. By fostering a climate of informed professionalism, we observe that action research encourages ownership of learning at all levels of the education system from pupil-to-pupil interaction to strategic management. Working in partnership with schools and applying action research methodology to its own activity, the authority seeks to help schools build up an evidence base of effective learning.
